Das Grundseminar I soll einen ersten Überblick über zentrale Kategorien, Begriffe, Praktiken und Institutionen der Bild- und Kunstgeschichte vermitteln. Welche Rolle kommt dem Gat-tungsbegriff im 21. Jahrhundert zu? Wie hat sich die Kategorie des „Stils“ im Lauf der Jahr-hunderte verändert? Was meinen wir, wenn wir von Medien der Kunst sprechen? Nicht zuletzt sollen die Orte und Praktiken der Bilder genauer in den Blick genommen werden: Das Format der Ausstellung, die Institution des Museums (mitsamt ihren Ordnungen und Funktionen), aber auch Fragen der Restaurierung und Konservierung.
Das begleitende Tutorium ist verpflichtender Bestandteil des Seminars. Beide Veranstaltungen sind eng aufeinander abgestimmt, so dass unbedingt davon abzuraten ist, das Seminar ohne Teilnahme am Tutorium zu besuchen. Eine Verbuchung der abschließenden Prüfungsleistung setzt die aktive Mitarbeit im Seminar/Tutorium voraus.
