In der qualitativen Forschung ist die Gruppendiskussion ein Instrument, um Meinungen, Einstellungen und subjektive Theorien zu erfassen. Große Meinungsforschungsinstitute arbeiten häufig mit Gruppendiskussionen, um gesellschaftlich relevante Tendenzen und brisante Themen zu erfassen und öffentlich zu machen. In diesem Seminar soll es im ersten Block darum gehen, wofür die Gruppendiskussion einsetzbar ist, was ihre Vor- und Nachteile sind und wie damit gearbeitet werden kann.
Im praktischen Teil des Seminars soll die Methode exemplarisch in eigenen Forschungsprojekten zu selbst erarbeiteten Fragestellungen erprobt und reflektiert werden. Die eigene Forschungsarbeit wird in kleinen Projektgruppen durchgeführt. Die Arbeit in den Projektgruppen verlangt von allen Beteiligten Eigeninitiative und Kooperationsbereitschaft. Der Arbeits- und Zeitaufwand ist im Vergleich zu üblichen Lehrveranstaltungen recht hoch.
