Die Sprachen der Welt unterscheiden sich voneinander in allen möglichen linguistischen Dimensionen. In diesem Seminar lernen Studierende, diese Variation aus verschiedenen theoretischen Perspektiven zu betrachten und zu beschreiben. Der Fokus liegt auf formal–theoretischen, funktional–typologischen und quantitativen Ansätzen sowie deren Schnittstellen.
Wir betrachten sprachliche Variation in Syntax, Morphologie, Phonologie, Pragmatik und im Lexikon mit Beispielen aus Sprachen aus aller Welt.

Studierende wählen eine nicht-indoeuropäische Sprache aus, mit der sie im Laufe des Semesters arbeiten. Die Studienleistung ist ein Referat über die grammatikalischen Eigenschaften der gewählten Sprache. Im Seminar besprechen wir Variation zwischen Sprachen und die Aufgabe der Studierenden ist es, die Eigenschaften ihrer eigenen Sprache mithilfe einer Grammatik zu erarbeiten.
