Bei dieser Übung handelt es sich um einen "klassischen" Lektürekurs. Ziel ist es, die Studierenden des ersten/zweiten Semesters in die kontinuierliche Lektüre lateinischer Prosa-Autoren einzuführen. Gegenstand sind folgende drei Reden(corpora) Ciceros:
- Pro Sexto Roscio Amerino,
- In Verrem 2,4,
- In Catilinam,
außerdem folgendes Buch aus De natura deorum:
- De nat. deor. I
Sinnvoll ist es, sich diese Reden (und die philosophische Schrift) in einer zweisprachigen Ausgabe zuzulegen (z.B. Reclam, Artemis/Winkler).

Diese Übung wendet sich an Studierende des ersten Studienjahres und zielt darauf, die Übersetzungskompetenz der TeilnehmerInnen im Bereich lateinischer Prosatexte zu stärken.

Die kontinuierliche Teilnahme sowie eine regelmäßige Vor- und Nachbereitung der Veranstaltung werden erwartet.
Die Übung wird mit einer Klausur (lat.-dt. Übersetzung) abgeschlossen. Der Text der Abschlussklausur entstammt einem der unten aufgeführten vier Bücher Ciceros (s.u.).
