Die Semantik befaßt sich mit der Bedeutung sprachlicher Ausdrücke und die Pragmatik mit ihrem Gebrauch. Da sich beide Teilbereiche der Linguistik mit der Relation von Sprache und Welt befassen, sind sie nicht immer sauber voneinander abzugrenzen.

Behandelt werden semantische Relationen, die zwischen Satzbedeutungen (Propositionen) bestehen. Semantische Regularitäten werden mit Hilfe der in Lin2 erlernten Techniken (Prädikatenlogik) ausgedrückt.

Die Pragmatik behandelt Bedeutung und Funktion von Sprechakten und Folgen aus diesen, allgemeine Maximen der Kommunikation, Gebrauchsbedingungen für Sprechakte und die Relation zwischen wörtlicher Bedeutung und kontextueller Interpretation.
