Die Veranstaltung bietet einen Überblick über Ereignisse, Entwicklungen, Strukturen und Probleme der Geschichte der Amerikas von der Kolonialzeit bis zur Konsolidierung der Nationalstaaten im 19. Jahrhundert.
Neben Vorlesungselementen und gemeinsamer Lektüre von Forschungslektüre liegt ein methodischer Schwerpunkt auf der gemeinsamen Quellenanalyse von Schlüsseltexten der Kolonialzeit und Dekolonisierungsphase.
Die Veranstaltung wird im Wintersemester 2015 fortgesetzt mit einem Schwerpunkt auf der Geschichte der Amerikas im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert.
