In this seminar, students will learn in-depth the knowledge about
-major theories in developmental psychopathology, in particular on internalizing disorders
-the developmental origins as well as risk and protective factors for internalizing disorders

Subject knowledge and understanding: By the end of the module the student should be able to
-demonstrate a critical knowledge about internalizing disorders at different stages of the life cycle
-demonstrate a critical understanding of the major concepts and theoretical perspectives on internalizing disorders
-demonstrate a critical awareness of the key methods and research approaches
-apply insights from research to the understanding and promotion of mental health

Key skills: Furthermore, the students will be able to
-appraise and critically evaluate scholarly literature
-conduct a literature search in the field of developmental psychopathology

Cognitive skills: Further, the students will
-demonstrate critical analysis and integration skills
-demonstrate the ability to synthesize literature and formulate own opinions
-search for, gather, and critically assess literature in the area of developmental psychopathology
… demonstrate awareness of the different research methodologies in the field of developmental psychopathology

Requirements for participation, required level

This seminar is mainly for bachelor students majoring in psychology, having psychology as a minor, and clinical linguistics students in their third semester.

Erasmus students doing either a Bachelor's or a Masters's degree can take part in this seminar.

There are no pre-requisite courses.

The seminar will be conducted in English. The students will read journal articles, discuss, present, and write assignments in English.

Active participation in group discussions during the seminar is required.

The assessment is based on a presentation and the organization of subsequent group discussions in the seminars and a group presentation of a self-selected topic relevant to the contents of the seminar.

Upon completing this seminar, the non-Erasmus students will receive 3LP. The Erasmus students will have to complete an additional graded work to be able to receive 4 ECTS points.
