230641 Analyzing and Interpreting Literary Texts: Chicana Writings (S) (WiSe 2025/2026)

Contents, comment

This class is both an element in the FsB 2017, BM2 (2.3: Genres, Authors, Periods) as well as an element in the FsB 2022, Basis2 (2.3 Analyzing and Interpreting).

In this seminar, we are going to explore some of the central texts produced by Chicana writers, Mexican-American women who write at the crossroads of cultural identities and produce fiction with a sharp sociopolitical edge. Our goal is to practice the nuts and bolts of literary analysis and interpretation against the backdrop of a context-oriented approach. You will engage in close reading and practice the usage of literary terminology, methodology and theory by analyzing and interpreting different literary text types (poetry, drama, narrative texts), all produced by Chicana writers.
