Die Cena Trimalchionis ist Teil eines zur Zeit Neros geschriebenen Romans und enthält die satirische Beschreibung eines Gastmahls bei einem neureichen Freigelassenen, über den sich der Senator Petronius lustig macht. Die Schrift gibt daher Einblick nicht nur in die Gesellschaft Italiens, sondern auch in die Verachtung, die wohlhabenden liberti in senatorischen Kreisen entegenschlug.

Gelesen wird der lateinische Text! Die kritische Ausgabe wird als pdf-scan zur Verfügung gestellt. Ferner sollte eine systematische lateinische Grammatik zur Hand sein (Rubenbauer/Hofmann/Heine u.a.) sowie ein wissenschaftliches lateinisches Wörterbuch (Georges; Oxford Latin Dictionary).
