230314 Teaching Literature (S) (SoSe 2022)

Contents, comment

In this course, we will address the questions why and how literature can be part of teaching English. This includes taking a look at the implications of literary theory on teaching literary texts, reflecting on criteria for text selection and on how to base teaching decisions on the literary characteristics of a text. On this theoretical foundation, we will try out and reflect on different methods of teaching literature, combining analytical and creative approaches to accessing literary texts.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.

You can earn study credits (SL) by presenting a literary text of your choice and suggestions how to teach it (in school or other contexts). Exam credits (PL) require a written paper in which you argue these choices more extensively based on the theory acquired in the course.
