Die drei ersten Könige Israels sind Gegenstand einer heftigen wissenschaftlichen Debatte geworden. Vieles, was man über sie zu wissen glaubte, wird inzwischen angezweifelt, einschließlich ihrer Existenz und Bedeutung für die Entstehung des Staates Israel.
Die Vorlesung wird mit einem Überblick zur Frühzeit Israels (1200-925 v.Chr.) einsetzen, dem eine Einführung in die Exegese historischer Erzählungen folgt. Im Mittelpunkt wird dann die Analyse der biblischen Überlieferungen zu Saul, David und Salomo unter historischen, literarischen und theologischen Aspekten stehen.
