Die Vorlesung ist für Studierende ohne Vorkenntnisse gedacht bzw. für diejenigen, die angesichts einer Prüfung "Boden unter den Füßen gewinnen" möchten.
Am Anfang steht eine Einführung in die fachwissenschaftliche Fragestellung und Methodik. Es folgt eine Darstellung der Realia "Geographie, Klima, Fauna, Flora" und ein Überblick zur Archäologie des Landes.
Die Geschichte Israels wird anschließend im Kontext der altorientalischen Geschichte behandelt. Einen besonderen Schwerpunkt werden sozial- und religionsgeschichtliche Zusammenhänge bilden.
Den Abschluss bildet die Entstehung der atl Schriften, ihre Überlieferung und die Kanonbildung. In diesem Teil der Vorlesung werden zentrale atl Texte ausgelegt.
Hebräischkenntnisse werden nicht vorausgesetzt. Die vorherige Lektüre der Bücher 1.Sam - 2.Kön und eines prophetischen Buches (Jes, Jer oder Ez) wird dringend empfohlen. Der gleichzeitige Besuch der Bibelkundeveranstaltung ist sinnvoll.
