Bis gegen Ende der 1970er Jahre herrschte die Auffassung vor, es habe im Dritten Reich keine Soziologie gegeben, denn Soziologe erschien per se als demokratische, mit einem totalitären Regime prinzipiell unvereinbare Wissenschaft. Seitdem haben wissenschaftsgeschichtliche Forschungen zutage gefördert, dass es im Dritten Reich sehr wohl eine Soziologie gegeben hat. Sie ist Thema dieses Seminars. Es ist nicht als Skandalgeschichte von Individuen gedacht, sondern es geht um folgende Leitfragen:
- Aus welchen Motiven arbeiteten Wissenschaftler als Soziologen im „Dritten Reich“?
- Aus welchen Gründen bediente sich das NS-Regime der Soziologie?
- Welche Leistungen erbrachte die Soziologie für das NS-Regime?
- Wie sah das „wissenschaftliche“ Profil der Soziologie im Dritten Reich aus?
- Warum gelang es einer beträchtlichen Anzahl von Soziologen der NS-Zeit, in der Nachkriegssoziologie Fuß zu fassen?
- Kann die NS-Soziologie als Teil eines globalen Funktionssystems Wissenschaft betrachtet werden?

In der ersten Sitzung werden Themenvorschläge unterbreitet und dann das Programm festgelegt. Eine Einzelleistung wird als Hausarbeit erbracht, eine Studienleistung als Referat.
