Migration und Bildung stellen ein Begriffspaar dar, das in den letzten Jahren in öffentlichen Diskursen sowie in der ungleichheitsorientierten Bildungsforschung für viel Aufmerksamkeit gesorgt hat. Die auffällig ungleiche Bildungsbeteiligung der Migrantenkinder in Deutschland geriet insbesondere durch den sogenannten PISA-Schock stärker in den Blickpunkt der Bildungsforscher. Seitdem stellen in den Sozialwissenschaften Migration und Bildung und ihre relationale Analyse vor allem aus der Perspektive der gesellschaftlichen Teilhabechancen einen zentralen Themenbereich dar, an dem das Seminar anknüpfen soll. Es ist in drei Bereiche eingeteilt:
Erstens soll der Kontext theoretisch-konzeptuell aufgearbeitet werden, umso die einzelnen Begriffe, ihre Beziehung und themenrelevante soziologische Konzepte zu erfassen.
Zweitens sollen empirische Studien zum Thema Migration und Bildung in Deutschland genauer fokussiert und festgestellt werden, inwiefern die theoretischen Annahmen auch in der empirischen Praxis zu beobachten sind.
Und drittens sollen diese empirischen Befunde aus Deutschland mit anderen internationalen Länderbeispielen kontrastiert werden.
