Zeit scheint uns als Bedingung menschlicher Erfahrung unumstößlich und objektiv. Tatsächlich sind spezifische Vorstellungen von Zeit aber gesellschaftlich konditioniert und überformt – und damit jeweils auch anders möglich und in ihrer konkreten Gestalt soziologisch erklärungsbedürftig. Genau diese soziologische Problematisierung von Zeitvorstellungen wird Gegenstand des Seminars sein. Dabei diskutieren wir zum einen klassische zeitsoziologische Perspektiven aus dem theoretischen Kernbestand der Soziologie. Zum anderen gehen wir anhand historischer und kolonialgeschichtlicher Arbeiten der Genese und Durchsetzung bestimmter Zeitordnungen nach. Das Seminar vermittelt so begriffliche Grundlagen und empirisches Anschauungsmaterial, um für die soziale Bedingtheit und historische Kontingenz von Zeit zu sensibilisieren.
