In diesem Seminar werden wir uns mit den sozialen Phänomenen der Macht und der Gewalt sowie mit dem Verhältnis von Macht und Gewalt auseinandersetzen. Häufig werden Macht und Gewalt miteinander identifiziert – Macht sei Gewalt und Gewalt sei Macht, so eine häufig vertretene These. Eine Gegenposition wird beispielsweise in der politischen Theorie von Hannah Arendt vertreten: Macht und Gewalt schließen einander wechselseitig aus. Andere Theorien betrachten komplexe Verhältnisse: Gewalt beginnt dort, wo Macht aufhört, aber Gewalt kann auch auf Macht beruhen.
Diesen Fragen wird das Seminar sowohl auf der begrifflich-explikativen Ebene wie auch am Beispiel von unterschiedlichen Dimensionen (Politik, Familie, Kollektive Bewegungen etc.) nachgehen.
