In this class we are going to strategically work our way through the texts of Michel Foucault, one of the most prolific and important philosophers and theoreticians of the 20th century. His works have influenced literary studies, social and cultural studies and many other research fields and added a large body of terminology to our toolkits. Together we will explore how Foucault's ideas have been - and continue to be useful - for research in British and American Studies.
This is a theory-heavy class for advanced students. Students therefore should have at least completed BM1 and BM2.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
Students are required to download and read texts for each week in preparation for class and will have to upload a terminological portfolio by the end of the semester. Further requirements will be discussed in the first session.
