This course offers an English-language alternative to the theory class in the introductory module of the MA sociology. Students will gain an overview on a selection of the most important theoretical approaches in sociology, especially on contemporary theories after the “classics” of Durkheim, Weber, and Marx. It provides students with the opportunity to explore and compare the sociological ideas of key theorists and to situate these along the classical sociological themes of micro-macro, structure-agency, or subjectivity-behaviour.
