„[S]o reden wir alle unser ganzes Leben lang Aristoteles“, meint Adorno in seinen Vorlesungen zur Metaphysik (S. 123) und man wird ihm in Bezug auf eine lange Liste philosophischer Termini Recht geben müssen. Recht selbstverständlich reden wir zum Beispiel von Substanz und Akzidenz, Form und Begriff oder Akt und Potenz. In seiner Metaphysik behandelt Aristoteles diese und andere grundlegende Begriffe der Philosophie. In den ersten sechs Büchern dieses Werks versucht er zu bestimmen, worum es der Ersten Philosophie oder, wie wir heute sagen, der Metaphysik eigentlich geht. Kurz gesagt geht es ihr um die ersten Prinzipien und Ursachen, das Seiende als Seiendes und das höchste Seiende. Wir werden im Seminar die ersten sechs Bücher dieses Werkes gründlich lesen und diskutieren.
Im folgenden Semester ist eine Fortsetzung des Kurses zu den sogenannten Substanzbüchern VII-IX geplant (die aber auch unabhängig vom jetzigen Kurs besucht werden kann).
