Das Seminar vermittelt einen Überblick über die sehr dichte, ereignisreiche und wechselhafte Geschichte der Weimarer Republik. Es behandelt die schwierige Gründungsphase (1918/1919), die sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Herausforderungen (Stichworte. Reparationen und Hyperinflation), die ökonomische und soziale Entwicklung (Stichworte: industrielle Massenproduktion und soziale Demokratie) und analysiert die Handlungsspielräume der Regierungen vor und während der Weltwirtschaftskrise.

Eien ausführliche Literaturliste wird vor der ersten Sitzung an die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer versandt. Zur Einführung werden die Überblicksdarstellungen von Heinrich August Winkler und Hans Mommsen (Die verspielte Freiheit) empfohlen. In der Bibliothek wird ein Semesterapparat eingerichtet.

Für eine Studienleistung sind ein mündliches Referat (Länge ca. 30 Minuten) und regelmäßige Anwesenheit erforderlich. Die volle Punktzahl von 9 LP gibt es für eine schriftliche Hausarbeit im Umfang von ca. 20 Seiten (fällig bis 2.11.2024).
