Woher kommt das wohl populärste Romangenre unserer Zeit? Wir wollen uns im Seminar mit den Vorgängern (Sophokles, 1001 Nacht, Schiller), den Begründern (Hoffmann, Poe), den Prototypen (Christie, Doyle, Chandler), den Ausreißern (Droste-Hülshoff, Camus) des Kriminalromans. Wir versuchen, den Formen dieser Geschichten näher zu kommen und versuchen außerdem, Antworten auf soziologische, psychologische und rezeptionsästhetische Fragen zu finden.
Das Seminar ist als literaturhistorisches Seminar konzipiert. Unsere Lektüre endet mit der (im weiten Sinne) Gegenwart, also vor 1945. Es wird also nicht Stephen King und auch kein Schwedenkrimi gelesen.
