Die Durchführung und Kommunikation von Vergleichen ist mittlerweile in nahezu allen
Bereichen der modernen Gesellschaft verankert. Auch formale Organisationen bleiben
davon nicht unberührt, sondern erweisen sich einerseits als Gegenstand, andererseits als
Produzenten solcher Vergleiche. Angefangen bei Börsennotierungen und Kreditratings, über
Qualitätsberichte bis hin zu diversen Rankings, werden Organisationen in vielfältiger Art und
Weise verglichen. Das Seminar fragt in organisationssoziologischer Perspektive nach den
Bedingungen, Funktionen, Relevanzen und Folgen solcher Vergleiche für formale
Organisationen. Die behandelte Literatur wird dabei sowohl allgemeinere Aspekte von
Vergleichen (Kommensurabilität, Quantifizierung) als auch bestimmte Eigenarten einzelner
Vergleichsformen (etwa Rankings) thematisieren. Darüber hinaus runden kleinere
Felderkundungen und die Erschließung empirischer Beispiele das Seminarprogramm ab.
