Seit vielen Jahren wird der Unterricht in (fast) allen Fächern und Schulformen in NRW koedukativ (gemeinsamer Unterricht von Jungen und Mädchen) erteilt. Dieses Prinzip ist immer wieder in der Diskussion. Schulministerin Behler schlägt sogar vor, teilweise getrennten Unterricht (besonders in den mathematisch-naturwissenschaftlichen Fächern durchzuführen.
Innerhalb des Seminars werden u.a. Fragen zur Koedukation aus Madchen- und Jungensicht, zur Chancengleichheit, zu Geschlecht und Gewalt, zur Kommunikation und Interaktion von Mädchen und Jungen am Beispiel konkreter geschlechterbewusster Pädagogik u.v.m.behandelt.
