Im Jahr 1972 veröffentlichte Alvin Weinberg einen Aufsatz zu ‚trans-scientific issues’, der die zu hohen Erwartungen der Politik an die Wissenschaft und ihre Fähigkeit, für Themen und Probleme Antworten bereitzustellen, kritisiert. Damit beginnt eine Diskussion, die die Funktion der Wissenschaft in gesellschaftlichen Entscheidungsprozessen im Allgemeinen und regulativen Konfliktsituationen im Besonderen aufnimmt und reflektiert. Die Auseinandersetzung beschäftigt sich mit Fragen der Zuständigkeit, Vorhersehbarkeit bis zu Themen von Laienwissen und Teilhabebedingungen in partizipativen Verfahren.
In diesem Seminar wird die historische Ausgangsposition beleuchtet und dann jene regulativen Themenfelder, die sich aus einer soziologischen Diskussion als nachhaltig erwiesen haben, rekonstruiert.
