The phenomenon of migration inspired many scholars, political leaders as well as became subject of many movies, through which sociological insights can be gleaned. Focusing on a variety of contexts across the globe, this course examines the rich and complex tradition of cinematic representations of the migration and mobility experiences. Refigured as agents of modernity, transnationals, mobile human capital, and sexual objects, we will examine migrants’, their lives and experiences. The course is structured around the themes of several inequality related differences such as ethnicity, age, matrimony, sexuality, gender, belonging and religion. The aim of the course is to teach students about main sociological subjects related to inequality production and reproduction while in the classes assessing movies together.
