Manchmal werden nichtmenschlichen Entitäten wie z.B. Robotern Menschlichkeit zugeschrieben. Dieser Prozess des Zuschreibens von Menschlichkeit gegenüber nichtmenschlichen Entitäten wird auch als Anthropomorphisierung bezeichnet (Epley et al., 2007).
Auf der anderen Seite werden manchmal Fremdgruppenmitglieder als Ungeziefer abgewertet. Sie werden als weniger wert wahrgenommen und ihnen werden weniger kognitive und emotionale Fähigkeiten zugesprochen als Mitgliedern der Eigengruppe. Dieser Prozess der Dehumanisierung spielt eine große Rolle bei der Frage warum Menschen fähig sind anderen Menschen Schäden zu zuführen und ist eine notwendige Voraussetzung für Genozide (Haslam et al., 2008; Savage, 2013).
Warum ist dies so? Was sind die motivationalen und kognitiven Ursachen für Anthropomorphisierung? Wieso ist Dehumanisierung eine Voraussetzung für Genozide? Wie hängen Dehumanisierung und Anthropomorphisierung zusammen? Wie kann Dehumanisierung verringert werden? Im Seminar wird diesen Fragen aus sozialpsychologischer Perspektive nachgegangen. Gemeinsam sollen Ursachen und Implikationen von Anthropomorphisierung und Dehumanisierung diskutiert werden und unterschiedliche Aspekte mithilfe klassischer sozialpsychologischer Theorien und aktuellen Forschungsergebnissen erarbeitet werden.

- bei Überschreiten der angegebenen Teilnehmeranzahl wird in der ersten Sitzung eine Auswahl getroffen
