As corpus linguistics enables the linguist to look at the real-life use of language, corpora are extremely useful in investigating various linguistic phenomena. They are the basis of research in different fields, e.g. dialectology, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, phonology, language acquisition, grammar, semantics, pragmatics etc.
While we will cover some theoretical issues, the focus of this seminar will lie on your own work with linguistic corpora.
BM3 completed.
Taking part in the introductory session is mandatory to confirm your seat in the block seminar in July.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
Students will have to develop, conduct and present a small-scale linguistic research (group) project to complete the course.
