Wichtige Wurzeln des Privatrechts in Europa liegen im antiken römischen Recht. Daher be-ginnt die Vorlesung mit einem Überblick zu den wichtigsten Entwicklungen in Rom. Danach wird ein weiter Bogen geschlagen über die Rezeptionsgeschichte, das Naturrecht und die Entwicklungen im 19. Jahrhundert, der mit der Entstehung des Bürgerlichen Gesetzbuches (BGB), das noch heute in Geltung ist, endet.
In der zweiten Hälfte des Semesters geht es dann um Eherecht, Eigentum, Delikts- und Ver-tragsrecht, wobei verschiedene europäische Rechtsordnung vergleichend nebeneinander ge-stellt werden.
Die Vorlesung richtet sich an Studierende im Grundstudium und rechtshistorisch Interessierte. Mit bestandener Abschlussklausur kann der kleine Grundlagenschein erworben werden.
