English Studies: British and American Studies at Bielefeld University offers a comprehensive study of the English language, linguistics, literature and culture. Students analyse works ranging from classic literary texts to contemporary novels, films and video games, and explore Anglophone cultures and the English language in all their diversity, including the linguistic analysis of empirical data on Englishes across the globe. The programme thus focuses not only on British and American Studies, but also includes cultures from Africa, the Caribbean and other English-speaking regions. In addition to subject-specific skills, students acquire key intercultural and communicative qualifications that open up a wide range of career opportunities in professional fields such as culture, education, PR and media.
