Peter Limbach is a Professor of Finance and Corporate Governance at the University of Bielefeld. He is also a research fellow of the Centre for Financial Research (CFR), Cologne. Peter holds a German Diploma (equivalent to MSc) in economics from the University of Bonn and a PhD (Dr. rer. pol.) in finance from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (supervisors: Martin Ruckes, Werner F.M. De Bondt). He spent several months at the Rotterdam School of Management as a visiting PhD. After his PhD, Peter was a postdoctoral researcher at the KIT before joining the University of Cologne as the CFR Junior-Professor of Investments in 2016. In 2020, he substituted the Professorship Financial Economics (Prof. Dr. Isabel Schnabel) at the University of Bonn.
Peter's research articles have been published in leading scientific journals in accounting and finance, including The Accounting Review (TAR), Management Science (MS), the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis (JFQA), and the Journal of Corporate Finance (JCF). His work has been accepted for presentation at leading academic conferences in accounting and finance, such as the annual meetings of the Western Finance Association (WFA), European Finance Association (EFA), and European Accounting Association (EAA) or the AAA FARS Mid-Year meeting. Since 2020, Peter has organized one of Europe’s leading virtual research seminar series (https://www.jointfinanceseminar.com/). Since, 2021, he has held the position of Vice chairman of the scientific commission Banking and Finance (BA-FI) of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB), and since 2022, he has served as a co-editor of Management Review Quarterly.
Peter was awarded the Junior Teaching Award of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne for his course on Corporate Governance. Besides his significant teaching experience at the BSc and MSC levels, Peter has taught MBA courses (e.g., at HHL Leipzig) as well as numerous PhD courses at several universities like Dortmund, Gießen, Göttingen, and Wuppertal. From 2025 on, Peter will teach the PhD course "Empirical Corporate Sustainability Research" as part of the prestigious ProDok PhD course series provided by the VHB.
