Das Seminar gibt eine Einführung in die Vertragstheorie und vermittelt dabei einen Überblick sowohl über die Klassiker der Vertragstheorie (v.a. Hobbes, Locke und Rousseau) als auch über zeitgenössische vertragstheoretisch argumentierende Ansätze (Rawls, Serres). Im Mittelpunkt des Seminars steht thematisch 1) die Bedeutung des vertragstheoretischen Denkens für die Konstituierung, Struktur und Funktionslogik moderner Staatlichkeit, 2) die Bedeutung vertragstheoretischen Denkens für die Theorie und Praxis der Internationalen Beziehungen sowie 3) die Frage, inwieweit das kontraktualistische Verständnis von (Volks-) Souveränität, Rechtsstaatlichkeit und Demokratie unter transnationalen Politikmustern überhaupt noch als ein sinnvoller politiktheoretisch-konzeptioneller Rahmen gelten kann.
