Ausgehend von gegenwärtigen Umbrüchen sozialer Reproduktion beleuchtet das Seminar Formen emotionaler Arbeit, Geschlechterbeziehungen und transnationale Aspekte von care. Dabei verweist der englische Begriff sowohl auf die mit Emotionen und Affekten verbundene Fürsorge als auch auf die Arbeit der Pflege. Fürsorge und Pflege ist nach wie vor meist unentgeltlich oder - als sog. „Frauenarbeit“ - sozial abgewertet und schlecht bezahlt. Die Auslagerung von Pflege und die Auflösung sozialer Solidaritäten und Netzwerke machen care vielerorts zu einem zunehmend individualisierten Problem: so gibt es insbesondere in westlichen Gesellschaften einen Boom an bezahlter Haus- und Pflegearbeit. Dabei werden ältere Menschen, Kinder oder Menschen mit Behinderung immer häufiger von Migrantinnen aus dem globalen Süden unter meist prekären Arbeitsbedingungen versorgt. Durch ihre Abwanderung dehnt sich die “care-Krise” global aus und schafft neue, transnationale Netzwerke der Pflege und Fürsorge.
