The class will start with an analysis of examples from the two early masters of the genre, Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie and consider their contribution to the development of detective literature.
A second focus will be laid on the intellectually more ambitious novels of three (almost) contemporary authors: Josephine Tey, P.D. James, and Val McDermid.
