In this course we will consider the interconnections between literature, media and intercultural learning in the EFL classroom. In the first three sessions we will examine the rationale for using literature and film in the foreign language classroom, develop criteria for the selection of suitable texts and explore ways of approaching and exploiting literature (and film) in lessons. We will focus on using poems (weeks 4-6) and children's video (weeks 7-8) plus a novel (weeks 9-11) and a film (weeks 12-14). The final session will be a review session. For details of assessment please see my web-page.
From week four onwards each session will include a presentation by two students, who will briefly present a topic from the course plan and provide a handout to be placed on the web-page. For details of assessment please see my web-page.
