Departing from W.E.B DuBois prophetic assessment that race will be at the cutting edge of cultural politics in the 20th century we will trace the representation(s) of race from early African American writings in the 19th century to classics of African American literature by authors such as Nella Larsen, Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Richard Wright.
