Using both fictional and non-fictional texts as primary source material, this lecture-type course gives an overview of historic events and developments as well as broader cultural, political, social, economic, religious and institutional contexts in the history of Britain from the Stone Age to World War II.

A Course Reader with source material will be made available; it will NOT contain general chronologies or timelines of "the basics" like reigns of monarchs, dates of important events or lists of important people. It is your own responsibility to read up on the general outline of British history. Please prepare yourself for the course by surfing and reading extensively (i.e. "a lot") on the following website:
