Vergils Aeneis und Ovids'' Metamorphosen'' üben seit ihrer Entstehung eine große Wirkung auf alle Bereiche der Kunst und Literatur aus. Beide Autoren galten z.B. im Mittelalter als Lehrer der Mythologie.
In diesem Seminar wollen wir versuchen, uns einen exemplarischen Einblick in das unglaublich breite Fortwirken der beiden Werke in Literatur, Bildhauerei, Malerei und Musik zu verschaffen. Bei der Rezeption verschiedener Themen aus der Aeneis (z.B. Dido, Troja, Unterwelt) und den Metamorphosen (z.B. Ikarus, Narziß, Europa, Orpheus) sollen die Fragestellungen verfolgt werden, warum diese Mythen so faszinierend und inspirierend waren, welche Bedeutung sie für die jeweiligen Rezipienten hatten und welche Bedeutung sie für den heutigen Leser haben könnten.
