Das Ökonomische war und ist eine umstrittene Größe; die Frage, ob und wie es beeinflusst werden kann und soll, ein Quell steter Auseinandersetzung. Keineswegs erst, aber verstärkt seit der Weltwirtschaftskrise nach 1929 konkurrieren unterschiedliche ökonomische Schulen um – wissenschaftliche, gesellschaftspolitische und mediale – Deutungshoheit. Auch die Wirtschaftspolitik folgte divergenten, einander teils ablösenden, teils überlagernden Maximen. Das Grundseminar rekonstruiert und diskutiert die verschiedenen Paradigmen ökonomischen Denkens und wirtschaftspolitischen Handelns sowohl durch die gemeinsame Lektüre programmatischer Texte als auch die gezielte Analyse einzelner Konstellationen zwischen den 1930er Jahren und der Gegenwart.
