Dieses Seminar beschäftigt sich (1.) mit den Folgen, die sich aus der Sozialstruktur einer Gesellschaft für die individuellen Denk- und Verhaltensweisen ergeben und (2.) mit den Konsequenzen individuellen Handelns für die Sozialstruktur einer Gesellschaft. Dies wird zum einen im Sinne einer Querschnittsperspektive an ausgewählten Beispielen der Partnerwahl, Morbidität, der Art der sozialen Beziehungen, individueller Bildungsbeteiligung sowie individuellen Karriereverläufen deutlich gemacht. Zum anderen soll im Sinne einer Längsschnittperspektive die soziale Strukturierung individueller Lebensverläufe aufgezeigt werden. Beide Perspektiven zusammengenommen erlauben, die Bedeutung sozialer Strukturen in modernen Gegenwartsgesellschaften für die individuellen Handlungsvollzüge einzuschätzen und den Wandel gesellschaftlicher Strukturen als Folge veränderter individueller Handlungs- und Entscheidungsmuster zu erklären.
