Einheitliche Kodierung von Bildinformation ist in allen Bereichen, in denen Bilddaten zwischen Systemen ausgetauscht werden, notwendig. Das gilt für die Übertragung von Fernsehbildern wie für den Austausch digitaler Bilddaten zwischen Rechnern. Speziell bei Bilddaten treten häufig große Datenmengen auf. Von besonderem Interesse sind daher Kodierungsverfahren, die zu einer Reduzierung der Datenmenge führen. Solche Verfahren zur Bilddatenkompression werden immer bedeutender für Anwendungen im Bereich von Datenbanken oder Kommunikation (z.B. Bildtelephon, WWW).
Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende im Grundstudium mit Interesse an konkreten technischen Umsetzungen. Es sollen verschiedene Verfahren zur Bilddatenkodierung und -kompression erarbeitet werden. Ausgewählte Themenbereiche sind:
- allgemeine Grundlagen der Kodierungstheorie
- Psychovisuelle Grundlagen
- Einzelbildkodierung: DCT, Wavelets, ...
- Bewegungsvorhersage
- Bildfolgenkodierung: Hybride Transformationskodierung, ...
Dabei soll auch auf einzelne Standards, wie GIF, PNG, JPEG, MPEG, etc. eingegangen werden.
