Angewandte Naturschutzbiologie gehört zu den herausragenden globalen Aufgaben und Herausforderungen von Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft des 21. Jahrhundert. In der geplanten Vorlesung im Sommersemester 2008 sollen die theoretischen Fundamente des Faches Naturschutzbiologie als auch die wichtigsten Ergebnisse als auch ausgewählte Projekte der Grundlagen- und der angewandten Forschung im Bereich des nationalen und internationalen Naturschutzes vorgestellt werden. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt der Vorlesung wird zudem im Bereich der angewandten Naturschutzgenetik (Conservation Genetics) liegen, der immer mehr eine Schlüsselstellung innerhalb der Naturschutzbiologie zuteil wird. Die Vorlesung wird durch zwei eintägige Exkursionen in die Senne und in ein FFH-Gebiet bei Krefeld ergänzt.
