Discourse processing refers to natural, interactive (mostly) face-to-face and contextualised language use, as in everyday communication. Successful communication poses high neurocognitive demands due to the complexity of information to be processed and integrated. The seminar will focus on language production and comprehension in discourse contexts and on the involvement of neurocognitive capabilities. We will address disorders of discourse processing in different populations, e.g. people with schizophrenia and people with epilepsy. Furthermore, current research on discourse processing in people with traumatic brain injury will be taken into account with a special focus on return-to-work perspectives and the integration of technology-based approaches into assessment and treatment, like virtual reality (VR).
