RNA hat neben der Funktion als Informationsübermittler von der DNA zu den Ribosomen weitreichende katalytische und regulatorische Funktionen (non-coding RNA). Für letzere ist die Funktion in großem Maße abhängig von der Struktur des RNA Moleküls. Das Auffinden und die Vorhersage von non-Coding RNA in Genomen, gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung und hat sich als eine wichtige Teil-Disziplin in der Bioinformatik entwickelt. Dabei kommen Techniken zum Einsatz, die über einen reinen Sequenzvergleich hinausgehen. Das Ziel dieses Praktikums ist es, einen Überblick über die verschiedenen Ansätze zur Vorhersage und Suche von non-Coding RNA zu bekommen und den Umgang mit den wichtigsten Tools zu erlernen.
