This workshop is aimed at researchers of all stages of their PhD phase who have unanswered questions regarding research ethics and would like to clarify these uncertainties or who would like to improve or reflect upon research ethics in their field of research.
The workshop will be divided into two parts:
In the first part (9-11 am)
- a general introduction to research ethics including professional ethical guidelines, informed consent, and more will be provided
- information about the procedures, requirements and materials needed for an ethics assessment of Bielefeld University Ethics Review Board including a short demonstration of the Ethiktool software to generate ethics applications will be presented.
- participants are invited to share and discuss examples from their own clinical research practice or planned research projects to provide guidance regarding potential ethical issues in their research and how to mitigate these.
In the second part (optional, 11-12 am)
- participants will have time to work on their own ethics application.
- receive feedback and support on their ethics application.
Participants need to bring their own laptop for the second part.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be empowered to a) reflect and plan their research in line with the professional ethical guidelines and b) to prepare an informative ethics application.
Participant requirements:
No prior knowledge is necessary but also welcome. Everyone is encouraged to bring specific project questions or issues (e.g., a project they are currently working on) that they would like to discuss.
