230082 Language Teaching Methods (weiterführende Schulen) (S) (SoSe 2016)

Contents, comment

This course offers an historical survey of methods of teaching English as a
foreign language from 1950 to the present day and emphasises the
linguistic, psychological and didactic principles underlying the various
methods. Attention will also be given to the idea of anti-method in EFL teaching, to self-directed learning and learner self-regulation. The
hybrid nature of much current language teaching will be demonstrated and
the ways in which various methods have influenced the design of current textbooks will be touched on.

Students will be expected to briefly present a method each week and
provide a handout. Students will be asked to keep their own personal
diary of the course.
