Das Seminar stellt Konzepte von Erving Goffman als Werkzeuge für eine qualitative Analyse sozialer Situationen vor. Zu diesen Werkzeugen, die sich insbesondere für ethnographische Forschungsarbeiten anbieten, gehören Goffmans dramaturgische Perspektive, seine Betrachtung von Alltagsritualen und die Rahmenanalyse.
In den ersten Sitzungen soll auf der Basis von Primärliteratur die methodologische Grundlage einer Interaktionsanalyse nach Goffman erarbeitet werden. Den Schwerpunkt des Seminars bildet die praktische Anwendung der Werkzeuge anhand von empirischem Material der Teilnehmenden.
