230666 Language Documentation: Linguistic and text-technological foundations (S) (WiSe 2015/2016)

Contents, comment

This seminar introduces the basic skills that are required in a language documentation project:

- skills in text linguistics and text technology

- training in software used by documentation projects

- basic fieldwork methods for the creation

- problems of translation of public utility documents into endangered languages

This seminar is part oft he collaborative programm „Language in cultural context: documentation, description, application“ between the Bielefeld University and the Université Houphouet Boigny, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The course is open for students at the Bielefeld University and visiting students from Côte d’Ivoire (funded through the DAAD).

The language of the course is English.
