230759 Englisch: Multilingualism (Type 1, Literary Texts): From an Unfamiliar Language with English and German Interlinear Translation, Level B1 and higher (S) (SoSe 2016)

Contents, comment

This multilingual course works on translating poetry from an endangered language (North-Sami) with English and German interlinear translation into the literary languages the students master. After getting a concise introduction to the Sami language and how to use grammar books and dictionaries, the students will work on the English and / or German word to word translation of the literary text. Both the Sami author (Inger-Mari Aikio) and a professional literary translator (Christine Schlosser) will offer their help via Skype talks for making a publishable version of the book. If things go well, our work should be presented at the 2016 October Book fair in Helsinki.

Students who are willing to take this course are highly recommended to sign up also for the language and culture course: 230758 Englisch: Introduction to the Sami Language and Culture, Level B1 and higher (S) (WiSe 2015/2016)

Highly motivated students with English level B1 and higher are most welcome!
