230655 Colloquium unlocked: How to Game Studies (Ko) (SoSe 2026)

Contents, comment

As an ever diversifying, growing field, game studies often leaves open one crucial question: how? How to game studies? How to study games? How does one analyze games through the lens of social and cultural studies?
In this colloquium, we want to tackle that question. We want to ask how one can deal with game studies on a fundamental level, what questions to ask, how to write, how to read. To this end, we will discuss existing research but also make plenty time for actually playing games – and not necessarily just video games, either. This will allow us to develop a thorough, critical perspective on this still emerging field.

While our framework is situated within British and American Studies, participants of all disciplines and programs are welcome to attend.
