This seminar has the aim to introduce you to the interpretation of literary texts in the English language. To this end we engage with the basic positions and methods of literary criticism and literary theory and explore the central strategies of analysis and interpretation that literary studies offers. We begin by discussing the role and function of literature, of theory, and of literary criticism. We then concentrate on the different approaches and tools of the analysis of the three genres drama, poetry and prose. We conclude with an overview of the central positions of literary theory.

Einzelleistung: You are required to write a 5-page essay in this class.
